Castles
"Castles" by Philip Steele, published by Kingfisher, is a wonderful glance into medieval life. Although written for children, this book will appeal to adults as well. "Castles" can provide a special reading time between parent and child. The historical information is presented in a colorful, easy reading format accompanied by beautiful illustrations and well-researched descriptions. Timelines, photographs, and artwork allow the reader to learn many aspects in an entertaining manner. "Castles" encompasses the social system, heraldry, knighthood, and lifestyles of the time period. This book provides a detailed glimpse into the past. Originally, I purchased this book for my nephew, but I will be acquiring a copy in the future for myself and my children. To anyone who wants to encourage their child to learn about this time frame in history, this book is perfect. By the way, I think this book will be a good time for a parent to spend reading with their child.

Clothes & Crafts - in Victorian Times
Published in Hardcover by Zoe Books (July, 1997)
Author: Philip Steele
Average review score:

Victorian Clothes and Crafts
"Victorian rooms were cluttered with objects, some handcrafted and others manufactured. There were ornaments and potted plants, such as aspidistras, and stuffed animals and birds in glass cases."

The Victorian Age was named for Queen Victoria who ruled Britain and Ireland from 1837 to 1901. During this time period, industry changed much of the traditional life in Britain. Machines replaced the human hand in crafts and people soon realized that mass production did not give the quality of the earlier handmade goods.

In this book you can learn about:

Victorian Crafts
Clothes and Fashion
Festivals and Holidays

Shows pictures of old sewing machines, details of tapestry, dollhouses, decorated books, Paris fashions and paintings.

You can also learn to make Victorian valentine's cards, Victorian silhouettes, decoupage and puppets.

There is also a glossary and a list of further reading.

Steele Rocks
When he was on a mission as a cop he was shot. He was on life support and would have stayed that way if not for a top-secret branch of the CIA. They made him into a cyborg. His brain was severely damaged but the microchip was intact. They transferred all the data from the chip to a small computer that became his brain. It was incased in nysteel to protect it. The series has Steele's (The main person in the book) missions and tells about his struggles in his new life. Mature readers because of language, drinking, and other adult content should only read this book.
All together on a scale from 1-10 I give it a 10.
The author is J.D.Masters.

Dad and Me in the Morning
As a Deaf person myself, I was pleased with the positive imagines in this work. This is an excellent book based on the relationship between a deaf child and his father. It displayed the father's acceptence of his child's need for ASL (American Sign Language) and the williness and time to learn it. It is also a good way to introduce the rudiments of Deaf culture to the general public. It should be recommended reading for all - including hearing children. The watercolor illustrations and the context within work together beautifully and was well recieved by students at Gallaudet University (a liberal arts university for the deaf/hard of hearing students.
